Etna:
Mount Etna (Aetna in Latin, also known as Muncibeddu in Sicilian and Mongibello in Italian, a combination of Latin mons and Arabic gibel, both meaning mountain is an active stratovolcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania. Its Arabic name was Jebel Utlamat (the Mountain of Fire). It is the largest active volcano in Europe, currently standing 3,329 metres (10,922 ft) high, though this varies with summit eruptions; the mountain is 21 m (69 ft) lower now than it was in 1981. It is the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps. Etna covers an area of 1,190 km² (460 sq mi) with a basal circumference of 140 km. This makes it by far the largest of the three active volcanoes in Italy, being about two and a half times the height of the next largest, Mount Vesuvius.

Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of eruption. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations.
Taormina:
Taormina is a small town on the east coast of Sicily, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. The "embryo" stage of Taormina's life lasted from 736 to 425 BC but we know very few information. Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse, conquered Taormina in 392 BC after two attempts. After Dionysius died, Taormina had a period of great splendour when Andromache, whose son was Timaeus the philosopher, was elected head of the town. The Syracuse rule was followed by a period of Roman dominion. During the Middle Ages Taormina had the same fate as the rest of Byzantine Sicily in trying to withstand one Moslem attack after the other. After the city was conquered by the Saracens in 902, its people attempted to revolt time and time again in spite of their rivals from nearby Messina who tried to subdue them. In 1410 the city became the seat of the Sicilian Parliament. It was under French occupation in 1675 before being occupied once again by Spain under Philip V. It was the Bourbons' turn in 1734 although their dominion only lasted until 1861 when Italy was united.
The most important and best preserved ancient monument in Taormina is the Greek Theatre, known also as "Ancient Theatre". It was realized in a beautiful panoramic point, from which we can admire the Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. The Greek Theatre in Taormina is the second-largest in Sicily after the one in Syracuse. No one is sure of when the Theatre was actually erected. Those who believe it was built by the Greeks say it must have been around the middle of the III century BC, when Hiero was the tyrant of Syracuse. But due to the theatre's structural characteristics, some say it was erected by Roman engineers to be used exclusively by the Greeks. This would explain all the Greek incriptions inside the theatre. Further evidence that the Theatre is of Greek origin is in the well-cut blocks of Taormina stone (similar to marble) below the scene of the Theatre; these are a typical example of the ancient Greek building technique. The theatre is divided into three main sections: the scene, the orchestra and the cavea. The scene is opposite the cavea and is where the actors used to perform. There is now a large ten-metre long portion missing in the centre of the scene, supposedly caused by attacks during the wars. The orchestra of the theatre was the flat clearing in the centre which separated the scene from the cavea. This area was for the musicians, but the choruses and dancers also performed there. The word "orchestra", nowadays meaning a musical band, comes from this part of the Greek theatre. The cavea on the other hand is the series of steps, from the lowest to the highest ones at the top, where the spectators were seated. The steps were carved out of the rock and, in place where there was none, they were built in masonry. The theatre is thought to have been able to seat about 5400 spectators. Nowadays as the Theatre is still practicable; it seated the audiences of the most important Italian cinematographic event, the "David di Donatello" award; now an international festival entitled "Taormina Art", lasting the whole summer period, is held there with cinema, theatre, ballet and symphonic music reviews.

RAGUSA IBLA host a wide array of baroque architecture, including several stunning palaces and churches. The Cattedral of San Giorgio was built starting in 1738 by architect Rosario Gagliardi, in substitution of the temple destroyed by the 1693 earthquake and of wich only a Catalan-Gothyic style portal can still be seen. The facade is characterized by a flight of 250 steps and by massive ornate columns, as well as by statues of saints and decorated portals. The interior has a Latin cross plan, with a nave and two aisles ending in half-circular apses. It is topped by a large Neoclassical Dome built in 1820.On a narrow widing street yhat connects Ragusa Ibla with Ragusa up-superiore is the Curch of Santa Maria delle Scale. This Church particularly interesting: bably damaged in the earthquate of 1693, half of this church was rebuilt in Baroque style, while the surviving half was kept in the original Gothic. The last chapels have canvases from some Sicilian painters of the 19th century

Piazza Armerina is a little town in the
province of Enna,
in the centre of Sicily,
famous in the world for its mosaics
in the Roman "Villa del Casale".
The "Villa Romana del Casale" is a Roman villa
located about 5km outside the town of Piazza
Armerina. It contains the richest, largest and
most complex
collection of Roman mosaics in the world.
The Villa was constructed
on the remains of an older villa around
the III-IV century AD, probably as the center
of a huge
latifundium covering the entire surrounding area.
How long the villa kept this role is not known,
maybe for
less that 150 years, but the complex remained
inhabited and a village
grew around it. It was damaged,
maybe destroyed during the
domination of the Vandals and the Visigoths,
but the buildings
remained in use, at least in part, during the
Byzantine and Arab period.
The site was finally abandoned
when a landslide
covered the villa in the XII century, and remaining
inhabitants
moved to the current location of Piazza Armerina.
The existence of the
villa was almost entirely forgotten
(some of the tallest parts
have always been above ground)
and the area used for cultivation.
Pieces of mosaics and some columns were found
early in the XIX century, and some excavations
were carried out later in that century,
the latest major excavations were in the period
1950-60 by Gino Vinicio Gentili after
which the current cover was built.

Description of the tour
The lovers of the photography, landscapes and, in particular, who is interested to the “Ibleo” Baroque, will find the stay in Ragusa Ibla as an excellent point of start for their activities. In fact, the suburb offers beautiful foreshortings in each corner, innumerable subjects to immortalize and breathtaking views on the hills and the valleys that surround it.
The facades of the churches and nobiliary palaces follow the classic standard of the Baroque, but the details of the decorations, the volumes and the town planning give life to a very original phenomenon known as “Ibleo” Baroque.
Ragusa Ibla is considered a cinematographic natural set and various directors appreciate its geographical position, its town planning and the atmosphere that it offers, near out of the time. Its sceneries and the country are now become a classic of the author’s movies and you will never miss the inspiration for your best photos.
During your stay in Ragusa Ibla you could admire the various historic-cultural evidences, that go since the first prehistoric settlements to the ‘700, the Golden Age, with the maximum expression of the “Ibleo” Baroque, that has made this town Unesco’s World Heritage Site.

As first day we will introduce you this wonderful suburb with a pleasant and relax walk, where you can admire the monuments that have made Ragusa Ibla Unesco’s World Heritage Site.
Our tour begins from the Church of "Santa Maria delle Scale" (Our Lady of the Stairs), Unesco’s World Heritage Site. The church is in a high position, at the beginning of the hairpin bends that from the “new town” go down towards Ragusa Ibla. The view that we see from the churchyard is wonderful, you will see all the suburb and the hill that surround it, bell towers, charming little houses, wonderful palaces, valleys of rare beauty and the famous country of Ragusa with its characteristic “muri a secco” (drystones walls). A heaven for the lovers of the photography!
We will continue our tour following the characteristic little stairs that go down in the heart of the ancient jewish neighbourhood named “Cartellone", with in its inside the “Vecchia Cancelleria" (Old Chancery), the "Palazzo Cosentini" (Casentini Palace) and, above all, the church of the “Idria”, survived at the earthquake of 1693, in Renaissance style, with a very interesting facade for the symbols of the Order of “Knights of Malta” carved. These three sites are Unesco’s World Heritage Sites as also the Baroque Church of the Purgatory. You will be fascinated by its dominant position and the mysterious symbols carved on its facade.
The tour continues, going into the characteristic neighbourhood of “San Paolo”, where there is still nowadays rests of prehistoric civilizations, catacombs and the Church of “San Filippo Neri”, Unesco’s World Heritage Site.
From here we will move through a panoramic way in direction of another monument declared Unesco’s World Heritage Site, the Church of “Santa Maria dei Miracoli” (Our Lady of Miracles).
The next stop is the “Portale San Giorgio” (Portal of San Giorgio), last rest of the ancient medieval cathedral entirely destroyed by the earthquake. Nearby the Portal there is the Botanical Garden, with in its inside various Byzantine rests, the Church of San Giacomo, the Convent of Capuchins and the Church of Sant’Agata.
We will continue our tour walking for the main street of Ragusa Ibla, “Corso 25 Aprile”, that from the garden leads to the Duomo. You could admire the magnificent Church of “San Giuseppe”, one of the maximum example of baroque architecture and Unesco’s World Heritage Site.
Our tour ends with the masterpiece of “Ibleo” Baroque: the Duomo of San Giorgio! It dominates the homonymous square and offers a wonderful view to the visitor. The spectacular facade, its colours and the splendid decorations leave you without breath! The inside, with its wonderful organ, and the narrow stairs that climb up on the back of the Duomo, will be the best way to end this tour and fix in your memory the wonderful Ragusa Ibla: a museum-town beautiful on day and magic on night!

1. Tasting of wines, oils, cheeses and typical products
One of the greatest expression of the italian cooking is the sicilian cooking. In this tour you will try with your mouth that it is really like this! We will lead you to taste the very good oliva-oil and the best sicilian wines. You will be fascinated by the vineyards and the cellars and we will discover the cooking of the province of Ragusa, with its typical products: the “Ricotta” (very good cheese that you will eat just made), the “Ragusano DOP” (other very good cheese), the “Focacce” from Ragusa, the bread made in home (you will find it only in Sicily), the sausage and many others very tasty typical products of sicilian cooking. 2. Siracusa and Ortigia
In this tour you will discover the beautiful city of Siracusa, included the little island of Ortigia, old zone of the city. Siracusa is one of the most evocative places of the Sicily for the wealth of its archaeological finds. We will visit the Archaeological Park of the “Neapolis”, the Greek Theatre, the “Latomie”, the Dionisio’s Ear, the Catacombs, the Aretusa Spring, the Cathedral, the Manice’s Castle, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Tears and more other. First to say goodbye we will go in a factory of papyrus where experts of the sector will explain you the processing of papyrus and where you could buy a precious drawing on papyrus like souvenir.

3. Castle of Donnafugata
Situated among centuries-hold Carob trees and surrounded by an immense park, Donnafugata Castle has fascinated the great director Luchino Visconti for the famous movie: “The Leopard” (“Il Gattopardo”). During our visit we will see the nobiliary rooms, richly decorated, and the majestic park, rich of a refined fauna, particular and eccentric constructions and the famous labyrinth!

4. Agrigento and Piazza Armerina
We will visit the most beautiful places left in Sicily by Greeks and Romans: Agrigento and Piazza Armerina. In Agrigento we will see the famous “Valley of the Temples”, Unesco’s World Heritage Site. In this area, during the V century BC, numerous temples were built, among these the “Concordia Temple”. The Temples offer a view particularly evocative in the dawn and in the sunset because they assume an hot golden coloration. In Piazza Armerina we will see the Roman “Villa del Casale”, Unesco’s World Heritage Site too. Greates example of the refined mosaic art in all the world, it gives us an idea of the luxury of the Old Romans.

5. Taormina
Among the many beauties of the Sicily, Taormina always enchants its visitors. You will visit the historic centre of Taormina, “losing” you among the fascination of its streets, and the evocative Ancient Theatre. We will lead you in the near little town of Castelmola where you will enjoy of one of the best panorama that you had never seen and drink in the funniest bar of the Sicily.

6. Noto Valley
The cradle of Baroque! This is an area very rich of archaeological parks, culture, tradition and holds towns defined “Gardens of stone”, for its very high concentration of buildings in Baroque style. The tour begins in Modica, famous for its chocolate too! Here we will see splendid examples of baroque art. After we will see the evocative town of Noto, Unesco’s World Heritage Site, that will offer you everywhere capitals, churches and nobiliary buildings in baroque style. The third weekend of May you will be able to see the famous “Infiorata” of Noto: scenographic carpet of flowers organized in the choreographic Via Nicolaci. Last Baroque pearl of our tour is Scicli.

7. Sicily to the Cinema
We will lead you in all the places immortalized by the cinema, from the picturesque little sea-village, much loved by the famous character Montalbano, to the splendour of the ballroom immortalized by Luchino Visconti, passing through all the countries and the ancient large farms that have inspired many directors and writers.
Besides you don’t forget that during your stay in Ragusa Ibla you will feel the emotion to spend your days inside a cinematographic natural set, where you will recognize innumerable places seen in the movies.

8. The Sea
The “Big Mother”, the “Mare Nostrum”. In the more clear nights we can see the lights of Malta, and, if you shove further your imagination, you will see the Africa and its red-hot coasts.
